Vertuo, the first mutual association dedicated to the environment
Vertuo’s mission is to support Québec businesses and institutions in the implementation of turnkey programs for the collection of organic waste.
The association strives to bring together the businesses that need a better collection service and those that offer efficient organic waste hauling.
Our main goals are:
- To reduce to a minimum the production of greenhouse gas emissions by enhancing collection routes so as the reduce the number of trucks needed;
- To identify and apply the appropriate processing method for each type of organic waste;
- To actively implement the new provincial government guidelines;
- To guarantee the quality of the collected waste and full traceability of the recycling process.
Context
Everywhere in the world, organizations want to recycle all their residual materials. Unfortunately, even with good intentions and efforts, businesses are often left to themselves and find it difficult to implement organic waste collection. In order to speed things up, the Government of Quebec has put in place a new regulation that will make it mandatory for businesses and institutions to sort and recover their organic waste. That’s why businesses have come together to create Vertuo, the first mutual association dedicated to the environment.
A turnkey solution
Vertuo supports its members free of charge by developing a customized implementation and follow-up plan. Vertuo also trains their employees in source separation in order to ensure simple implementation and an optimal rate of recycling of the organic waste.
An exemplary recovery
For each member, Vertuo will choose the destination of the organic waste according to a decision pyramid that prioritizes source reduction, food donation, animal feed, industrial uses, composting and finally elimination. In this way, Vertuo members ensure the quality of the organic waste sorted and the complete traceability of the recovery process.
